Hello. It is August 2023. I am about 35-40 hours into building this discography for you to peruse, not counting others' time spent editing / fixing stuff. Be warned: this is very much a work in progress (and is not fully updated yet). The original data corroded when a previous website disintegrated, well over a decade ago. Fun times. Anyhow, bringing all of this info into perfect alignment may well be too much of an expectation. I will, however put a little time here and a little time there into expanding and enhancing all these sans-serif words and numbers that follow. Enjoy? --Var.

• The one and only No Idea record pressed at Bill Smith. There were supposed to be 200 on Green, but 100 of these were “lost by UPS” along with the 1/4” master tape reel. Ten years later, Bob from Vinyl Communications saw the tape box sitting on a shelf in Bill Smith’s office and sent it back to me. True story. We were going to do a re-press of the IHM LP with Bill Smith around 2014 or so, then run by Bill’s son, but it never got past the test-press phase as they closed shop and sold the presses. Bill Smith pressed some iconic records over the years and did a unique spotted vinyl. (Had I realized in 1987 that they could do this effect, you know there would have been 100 of those too.) I ordered all the colors as, well, this was probably the only time I would ever press a record, right?

• Ten years later: A couple times we got a box dropped off with a note, “Found another box of these in my closet...” We ended up with a few hundred of these. About half had no covers and received a photocopied cover (probably with a No Idea logo stamped on them). Later, we received a stack of the original covers in the same fashion.

• I remain very proud of the metal version. The art really called out for something industrial (and the band’s music equally called out to be noticed in a larger way, if not simply to live long in collector-nerd infamy). I brought in a lot of friends and family (literally) to help create them. I heard about a Charles Bronson LP that Lengua Armada made that had a metal cover. I never saw one, but I was later told it was a single-piece of metal. I thought going the distance and making the entire jacket out of metal would be cool. Welding a box seemed too time consuming, so they were cut, edges sanded, screen-printed at Aesthetic Print & Design then folded on a metal brake. My father did the metal work. I highly endorse working with AP&D and, why not, my Dad too. I think we sold these for $20. Again, what was I thinking?!? I think I will do something similar someday, but we will need to charge a lot more for the end result ;)

• I think there was a two-week gap before YL were to tour with Leatherface. I got the idea of doing this one-sided 7” as a tour record, but that is way too short of a turn time for a record, wasn’t it? As I was joining the tour, I was able to put the record on the card table alongside the other YL records and I just sat and waited until various members walked by and their eyeballs popped out. Well worth it. Unfortunately, the first show was at Slugo's and they forgot they booked it… so like 4 people watched the band. We were fed like kings and no complaints were uttered. How could you complain with a full belly? The second pressing has a screen-print on the B-side of the record.
